Performing Arts Center
Sheridan College, in association with the WYO Theater, and with assistance from Whitney Benefits, engaged Malone Belton Abel to plan a major expansion incorporating the two adjacent buildings to create a new WYO Theater Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Sheridan on Main Street. The building to the north is the Hallmark Building; the building to the south is the Perkins Building. Work to connect the Perkins Building has already begun.
The expansion will add:
- Dramatically increased lobby space including a long new concessions bar and coffee shop
- More restrooms,
- A new black-box theater,
- Small-venue music and theatrical spaces for 30 to 150 people
- Wing space beyond stage-right,
- A modern rigging system,
- New theatrical lighting
- An elevator to serve the loge seating,
- A larger green room and star dressing rooms,
- A large costume storage/ repair room
- Expanded storage
- New ticket and administrative offices
- New faculty offices
The project, which commenced twenty-two years after we did the major renovation that created the WYO Theater, is in the schematic design stage, and presently in fund-raising. Estimated cost is $8 million for construction, plus the cost of equipment.
