Performing Arts Center

The WYO Theater Center for the Performing Arts is a major expansion of the WYO Theater. Sheridan College, in association with the Theater, and with assistance from Whitney Benefits, engaged Malone Belton Abel as planner, architect and structural engineer to incorporate the two adjacent Main Street buildings into the performing arts venue. Work on the $3 million first phase of the project was completed in 2014. The new complex three-story space, complete with the Mars Theater, is in the former Perkins Building.  The project added:

  • Expanded lobby space with a new concessions bar and seating
  • A black box theater,
  • Small-venue music and theatrical spaces for 30 to 150 people,
  • Wing space beyond stage-right
  • A modern rigging system,
  • New theatrical lighting,
  • More restrooms,
  • An elevator,
  • A larger green room; star and ADA compliant dressing rooms,
  • A large costume storage/ repair room
  • Expanded storage
  • New offices for the college

Phase one of the new project was completed twenty-four years after we did the major renovation that created the WYO Theater.
